AARP - Aging in America Docuseries
-
For AARP, I wanted to reframe aging through a more optimistic lens and create a campaign that felt authentic, inspiring, and deeply human.
-
As Art Director, I built the campaign around storytelling and the experiences that shape us. The gold branch and elevated gold backdrop symbolized growth, wisdom, and achievement, while authentic imagery and editorial typography brought a sense of warmth and credibility to each story. Every design decision was made to celebrate the people behind the message and create a stronger emotional connection with the audience.

The result was a refined, story-driven campaign that transformed everyday experiences into meaningful narratives. By combining strategic art direction with human-centered design, the work positioned aging as a chapter defined by purpose, possibility, and connection.
Concept & Visual Foundation
For this AARP project, my goal was to create a visual system that felt both sophisticated and approachable, reflecting the organization's commitment to empowering individuals through knowledge and community. The gold branch became a central visual motif because it symbolized growth, resilience, and the value that comes with experience. Rather than functioning as a purely decorative element, the branch served as a connective device throughout the composition, guiding the viewer's eye and reinforcing the project's themes of longevity, achievement, and personal enrichment. This symbolic element helped elevate the overall narrative while adding a sense of warmth and refinement to the design.
Visual Storytelling
Color & Typography
The color palette was chosen with the same intention. I wanted the background to create a sense of warmth and comfort, almost like an inviting conversation rather than a traditional marketing piece. It provides space for the content to breathe while allowing the imagery and messaging to take center stage. The typography also played a critical role in making the experience feel approachable. Rather than relying on decorative type treatments, I focused on clarity, hierarchy, and readability. My goal was to create an experience that felt easy to navigate and welcoming to a broad audience, while still carrying an editorial quality that elevated the overall presentation.
Imagery & Storytelling
The imagery was ultimately what brought the story to life. I wanted the people featured in the piece to feel authentic, relatable, and full of personality. Every image was selected to create moments of recognition and connection, allowing viewers to see reflections of themselves, their families, and their communities. When combined with the warmth of the color palette, the symbolism of the gold branch, and the clean typography, the visuals worked together to create something that felt less like a campaign and more like a celebration of people's journeys. For me, the success of the design came from finding that balance between emotional connection and clear communication.
The Gold Treatment
Rather than placing the subjects against a neutral backdrop, I wanted to create an environment that felt celebratory and aspirational. The gold treatment brings a sense of value and prestige to the stories being shared, reinforcing the idea that the experiences, lessons, and perspectives of older adults are worth highlighting and honoring. The contrast between the rich navy and gold palette also helps the content feel more premium while remaining approachable.
