The Challenge

Magnus needed a visual identity that felt modern, stylish, and culturally relevant. I developed a bold editorial system that balanced striking imagery, thoughtful typography, and engaging storytelling to create a distinctive magazine experience.

The Approach

I wanted Magnus to feel like a magazine people would actually pick up and spend time with. By combining strong typography, dramatic photography, and spacious layouts, I created a visual identity that felt modern, sophisticated, and consistent across every touchpoint.

The Outcome

The final result is a magazine concept with a strong visual identity and a clear point of view. Magnus highlights my ability to bring together branding, storytelling, and editorial design to create a cohesive and engaging reader experience.

Magnus Magazine

Magnus

The word Magnus originates from Latin, meaning "great" or "significant." While traditionally associated with strength and authority, I saw an opportunity to redefine what those qualities could look like through a modern lens. The concept was built around the belief that strength doesn't have to be loud, and elegance can be just as impactful as confidence.

Designing for Discovery

Article: The Red Effect

When I began developing Magnus, I wanted readers to feel like they were uncovering stories rather than simply consuming content. Every design decision was driven by the idea that great editorial experiences create moments of curiosity, pause, and reflection. My goal was to build a publication that felt immersive and cinematic while remaining accessible and easy to navigate.

Solving for Readability

Article: Redefine Style in 2026

One of the biggest challenges was striking the right balance between visual impact and readability. Editorial design often requires managing large amounts of content without creating fatigue for the reader. To solve this, I carefully established typographic hierarchy, consistent spacing, and clear content structures that allowed information to breathe. Every layout was designed to support the reading experience first, ensuring that the visuals enhanced the content rather than competing with it.

Art Direction Through Layout

The layout system was designed to create movement and variety while maintaining consistency across the publication. Some stories called for bold, image-driven spreads, while others required quieter moments that allowed readers to focus on the content. By combining structured grids with flexible layouts, I was able to create a sense of rhythm throughout the magazine. This approach helped each story feel unique while reinforcing a cohesive editorial identity.

Creating an Emotional Connection

Article: Grounded in Style. Elevated by Nature.

The storytelling extended beyond the articles themselves. Through art direction, imagery, and copywriting, I focused on creating an emotional connection between readers and the content. I wanted each story to feel personal and human, using thoughtful visual pacing and compelling headlines to draw readers into the narrative. Rather than overwhelming the audience with information, the design encourages exploration and creates space for the stories to resonate.

Visual Hierarchy

Article: Grounded in Style. Elevated by Nature.

I wanted the visual hierarchy to mirror the story itself. The headline serves as the entry point, immediately establishing the relationship between fashion and the natural world, while the supporting imagery creates space for readers to experience that connection before diving into the content. Rather than competing for attention, the typography, imagery, and layout work together to create a calm rhythm that encourages readers to slow down and engage with the story. My goal was to make the experience feel less like reading an article and more like stepping into a mood or perspective.

Color Exploration

Article: Earth Tones

I explored how color could become part of the storytelling itself. The earthy palette wasn't just a visual choice; it helped reinforce themes of authenticity, simplicity, and connection. I wanted readers to immediately feel the warmth and familiarity of the subject matter, so the visual system prioritized tonal harmony and subtle contrast rather than relying on loud graphic elements. This allowed the photography and editorial content to feel cohesive and emotionally resonant.

Designing a Cohesive Journey

As I mapped the reader journey, I thought carefully about how someone would move from the magazine landing page into individual stories and then continue exploring related content. I wanted every touchpoint to feel intentional, so I established a consistent visual language through typography, color, imagery, and page structure. While each article has its own personality, the shared design system helps create a sense of familiarity that allows readers to focus on the stories instead of relearning the interface from page to page.
